Historical Overview

Beneath the blazing skies of the plains, the waters of the Tame River witnessed the birth of an invincible army. They were not just regular soldiers; they were nearly 3,800 souls united by a single promise of freedom. At the front, the unwavering gaze of the leaders pointed the way to the mountain range, but the true strength of this undertaking marched with the water at their knees.

There advanced the pioneers of the Llanero resistance: men of lance and valor like Ramón Nonato Pérez, Juan Nepomuceno Moreno, and the audacious Friar Ignacio Mariño, bearers of the indignation over the sacrifice of the young Cadena and Rosillo in Pore. And alongside them, defying the current with equal dignity and strength, marched ‘Las Voluntarias’ or ‘Juanas.’ Those brave women not only assisted the Patriot Army but also defined, with their deep roots and their blood, the historical destiny of our emancipation. Crossing the Tame was not just crossing a river; it was the united march of an entire people who decided that freedom was a path of no return.
