Who We Are

Fundación Museo Galería Independencia, a cultural foundation, is more than a museum: we are guardians of Latin American historical memory and ambassadors of the stories that shaped our freedom.

Founded with the vision of democratizing access to independence history, we have become a traveling museum dedicated to Latin American independence movements. Our main headquarters is in Bogotá, Colombia, but our reach transcends borders.

The only traveling museum dedicated to keeping the memory of our liberators alive

Our Mission

Fundación Museo Galería Independencia was born with a clear purpose: to preserve, disseminate, and keep alive the historical memory of the independence movements that transformed Latin America between 1810 and 1824

As the only traveling museum specialized in this crucial period of our history, we bring the legacy of our liberators directly to communities, breaking down the geographic and economic barriers that traditionally limit access to culture and historical education

Our mission is built on three pillars:

    • Historical Preservation
We safeguard artifacts, documents, and testimonies that narrate the stories of courage, sacrifice, and determination of those who forged our freedom. Each piece in our collection is a tangible fragment of the history that changed the destiny of entire nations.

    • Accessible Education
We believe history should not be confined to static museums. We bring educational exhibitions to schools, public squares, and remote communities, making history accessible to everyone, regardless of their location or economic resources.

    • Connecting Generations
We connect new generations with their cultural heritage, transforming dates and names into human stories that inspire, move, and teach. We don't just display artifacts; we tell the stories of the people behind them.

We work tirelessly so that every child, youth, and adult can know and feel pride in the legacy of independence that defines us as Latin Americans. Each exhibition is a bridge between the heroic past and the promising future of our nations.

What Makes Us Unique

We don't wait for people to come to us; we bring history directly to communities. From rural schools to urban squares, from Bogotá to the United States, our exhibitions travel to make history accessible to everyone.

    • Human Stories
We don't just exhibit objects; we tell the stories of the people behind them. From recognized heroes like Simón Bolívar and José Antonio Anzoátegui, to forgotten heroines like María Antonia Santos and Juana Velasco de Gallo, each piece has a human story to tell.
    •
    • International Reach
With presence in Colombia and expansion plans to the United States, we bring the legacy of Latin American independence to global audiences, connecting diaspora communities with their historical roots

Our Story

The Foundation was born from a deep conviction: the history of our liberators must not be forgotten—it must be lived. Inspired by the stories of courage and sacrifice that changed the destiny of entire nations, we created a space where the past comes alive and the legacy of independence remains alive for future generations.

Every weapon forged in improvised workshops, every document signed with determination, every object that survived centuries of history, reminds us that the freedom we enjoy today was conquered with sacrifice, courage, and unwavering determination.

EN HOMENAJE A
WILSON OMAR PERALTA RIVERA
